Teaming-up to children

Instead of having a run-of-the-mill day out, the RWE Legal Department wanted to do something special. Executive Secretary Sandra Seiss therefore took a look at RWE Companius Web to see if there were any interesting projects in the pipeline.

Once something suitable had been found, Liane Kasperek took over and did all the necessary organising. D-Day was 24 September, for it was then that 32 employees of the RWE Legal Department set out to give the day-care centre in Essen a makeover.
The helpers were split into ten separate teams. “It was a great experience for all of us, despite all the aches and pains we had the next day,” reports a delighted Dr. Manfred Döss, Head of the Legal Department.

Much of the work involved cleaning up the centre’s façade. The window bars, flashing and ledges had to be sanded down and repainted and the walls themselves given a new and more cheerful coat of paint. Working according to the principle “Many hands make light work”, other volunteers touched up the paintwork inside the building as well, while those with green fingers got down to the job of planting trees and bushes in the garden and getting rid of some of the weeds. They even used barrow-loads of sand to landscape the garden in readiness for its greening over.

“We made sure there were people from different divisions on every team. That way, they had a chance to get to know each other and the atmosphere was great,” says Liane Kasperek, who like everyone else involved regards the team-building exercise as a complete success.
