RWE supports social marketplaces

Not-for-profit organisations are keen to win the support of private enterprise. And private enterprise is becoming increasingly keen on community involvement, too; not just because of the responsibility it bears to society, but also because community involvement is now recognised as a key factor in professional development. The search for meaningful forms of cooperation is not always easy, however, especially when there are so many different options available.

Working in cooperation with RWE, the Bertelsmann Foundation organises social marketplaces at which not-for-profit organisations and private enterprise can make contact and agree to work together with a minimum of red tape.

The social marketplace concept is readily understood: Representatives of private enterprise and community involvement initiatives meet at scheduled events and there, after a gong has sounded, have two hours in which to present what they have to offer. Since these events are also great networking opportunities, it’s not uncommon for joint projects to be agreed then and there. Those unable to find what they are looking for can seek the support of one of the “brokers” whose job is to help them find a suitable partner.

There’s no end to the possibilities: Facilities which need hands-on help with repairs and renovation work can scout for companies with lots of handymen on their payroll. Initiatives which help children from disadvantaged backgrounds, on the other hand, can make contact with companies whose employees might be interested in tutoring or helping young people get a foothold on the job market.

As a project partner of the Bertelsmann Foundation, RWE Companius supports the marketplace concept and is actively promoting its spread. You can therefore look forward to receiving regular updates on forthcoming social marketplaces near you.
