Team-building in a garden in Werne
Just what a dedicated team can achieve in a single day was proven just recently by ten employees from Private and Commercial Accounts at RWE Westfalen-Weser-Ems. In what was a truly remarkable feat, they transformed the wilderness surrounding a day-care centre for children and young people in Werne into a proper garden. Tobias Mürmann encouraged as many of his colleagues as possible to take part. “Combining team-building with a good cause is a great idea in my view and met with enthusiasm among my colleagues as well,” says Mürmann. The team got down to business one Friday in May. In the course of a whole day spent working on the premises of the Jugendhilfe Werne, the helpers not only erected a climbing frame and installed a new sandpit, but even planted lots of trees and bushes.
The project was about more than just improving the centre’s recreational facilities, however. The garden is above all else a place for learning. Many of the children and young people here have motor impairments or behavioural disorders. For them, therefore, the garden is a great place for improving motor skills and body confidence and for promoting personality development.
“The project was definitely worthwhile for us,” says Mürmann, “and I’m confident that everyone involved would agree.”
