RWE employees ran – RWE Companius paid!
The sponsored run organised by the Westfälische Rundschau on 6 and 7 June 2008 was a great success! Seventy-five groups and countless individual runners participated in this year’s event. Among them were 37 employees from RWE Energy, who ran a total distance of 580 km in Dortmund’s Rote Erde stadium. RWE Companius donated 50 cents for each of the 1,452 laps run. Altogether, the participants in the 24-hour sponsored run ran 48,814 laps, or 18,000 km, and raised €24,407! The ADFC (German Cycling Club) will now use this money to buy 40 bicycles with trailers that can be lent out to schools for use on excursions.
At this year’s run, the event organisers provided not just a dirt track, but bouncy castles and a climbing wall as well so that there was plenty of entertainment for the spectators, too. Trained physiotherapists were on hand to massage the runners’ aching muscles and those who still had some energy left after running their laps were able to make a quick dash to the finish on the sprinting track.
